Monkey of the Red Pagoda

[These Monkeys are a mishmash of various Asian folklore depictions.]

The Monkey Kingdom is a small feudal realm centered on the ancient Red Pagoda in the shadow of the sweltering Jungles of Yigg. Despite appearing somewhat comical to humans, the soldiers of the Monkey army are, by necessity, a formidable fighting force, for the evils of Yigg are sometimes disinclined to remain in the jungle. Rakshasas in particular often assail or infiltrate the fortress, considering Monkey flesh nearly as savory as that of men, and the Monkeys are quite proud of their tradition of fearlessly battling these and other Demons.

The Monkeys of the Red Pagoda resemble large, tailed Earthly macaques. Adult males are about 4' tall and quite strong for their size. They speak and use tools, and Monkey soldiers are equipped with excellent weapons and armor. When not engaged in battle, they retain the tendencies toward caprice and clownishness of their less-evolved ancestors. Many humans thus do not take them seriously, or even consider them obnoxious, and they often quarrel even with other Monkeys.

Monkey PCs may be Warriors or Rogues; it is rumored that there are Monkey Wizards in the Pagoda, but this is unverified. The Monkey King, Sun Wukong, is said to be equally skilled in warfare and Wizardry, but this may be typical monkeyish puffery.

Monkey Warriors favor brightly-colored, beautifully decorated lamellar armor, and often prefer kukri as weapons.

Modifiers: Charisma x 2/3. All others as normal. A Monkey can wield an extra weapon with his tail if he meets all Strength and Dexterity requirements — e.g., a Monkey with 18 Strength and 18 Dexterity could wield three kukris simultaneously. (This looks wicked.)
